Previously reworked by Japan’s Isao Tomita over 40 years ago, here are superb 2016 takes of the beautifully ethereal works of the French composer!

"The Classical music of Claude Debussy is inspiring, timeless and beautiful. It is full of musical ideas, touched with tonal moods and highly variable in style, so much so that non-classical music fans can’t ignore it.”

When Stefan Erbe begins a new music project, the musical progress and his own conceptual development are essential aspects of the recording process. He always disconnects himself from previous works, sets his creativity to a starting point and strives to achieve a new view on his upcoming musical ideas.

“To find the best way to approach the older pieces of music you need to analyse your own musical skills and ask yourself if you are able to implement these to re-create the work without blasphemy of the original”.

Erbe’s synergy of electronic and classical music really does offer something new, because it consists of something more than a simple interpretation - it is a symbiosis of the Electronic and Classical music genres. It is not just his sound, or the “synthesized emotionality” his interpretations reveal, it is also the musical extension and his bold venture to add something to the music that makes it work so well.

Erbe dares to change notes, to enlarge melodies, and in doing so defines all areas new.
On ‘Selectronique’ his own compositions join the preludes and suites, inspired by the ideas, the stories and the life of Claude Debussy.

Stefan Erbe’s typical character also can be found on this 2016 album.
It took a fifteen-month process to fashion the melodies, dramatic elements and many other complex themes that form the finished production.

The album tells its story over 67uninteruppted minutes.
There are obvious comparisons to be drawn with the genre genius Isao Tomita’s 70’s take of Debussy’s beautiful iconic music, but Erbe’s version is something different. His philosophy of blended synergy is not only a form of instrumentation; it is rather the goal to expand the music, even if this can occur with a reduction in scope.

Can synthetic versions of Classical music do the original justice? They can, if they get the chance to break away from their image. Typically, one tends to classify electronic versions as something newly gained. Maybe we call it Classical Ambient or Neo-Classical, but no matter what name it is given, a new story can be drawn, written or told from the music, but ultimately it does not matter, because it is a good story anyway.
